IA and WHAT'S IN A NAME

WHAT’S IN A NAME

I was delighted when Iain Anderson took up a listener’s use of my initials on his October 14th 2010 program and referred to me as SKC
It is so desirably brief!

I had always used the K (which stands for Kerr) in my signature  But when my Dad died it became a more considered addition as it was also his middle name
Then I wrote a book entitled Balancing The Request To Be Good about my work with children and used Sheila K Cameron

Then I hid for a while behind S Casey as I was apprehensive about having my words and songs 'out there'

Then I decided I'd better get a move on if I wanted any of them to get heard before I left the planet
Then I saw how many other Sheila Camerons there were and felt I needed to differentiate myself from them
Then I tried Sheila KC and used that for a while. But that didn't feel right either
Then I began to use Sheila K Cameron - although I thought it was far too long and sounded rather pretentious
Then when I heard Iain Anderson refer to me as SKC one night and it was just after Dory Previn had finished singing Mythical Kings and Iguanas I thought that’s what I should have called myself
That is just so neat
Then I thought – maybe - at times - and at the risk of sounding even more pretentious – I’ll just call myself SKC and be damned - probably
